Accessible healthcare solutions

In order to best identify and meet the needs of each and every patient, healthcare facilities must implement changes that promote inclusion for all people, regardless of disability.

By Daniel Lopez

Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right that must be guaranteed for all people. Unfortunately, a percentage of the population still cannot access safe and accessible healthcare, due to a variety of socio-economic factors including proximity to healthcare facilities and absence of inclusive public development policies.

This problem directly affects many people with disabilities, who for reasons in addition to those above are faced with a variety of barriers and obstacles when trying to make appointments, access facilities, or get test results.

With this in mind, we are forced to question…how can we improve the accessibility of healthcare facilities for people with disabilities?

It might sound like a difficult challenge, but Lazarillo has been working for over 5 years to address this very issue (among others). And we assure you – there ARE solutions to this problem!

Increasing accessibility inside

Thanks to technologies developed by Lazarillo, hospitals, clinics and laboratories can provide accessible navigation to their facilities for users with visual disabilities or mobility problems.

For example, Lazarillo can provide precise geolocation information on the locations of entrances and parking lots, so that people with disabilities can navigate to exterior locations easily with audible guided messages.

Lazarillo users can also be guided through the inside of a building, helping them to easily access reception desks, exam rooms, bathrooms, and offices. This allows patients to move with greater autonomy thanks to a very simple and affordable technological solution, giving patients greater accessibility and allowing hospitals to meet legal guidelines for accessibility.

The Lazarillo team is currently working with healthcare networks across the world to develop ambitious solutions for accessibility. For example, we are currently working with the UC Christus health network to develop an accessibility project in Chile, the execution of which will allow for greater accessibility in six different hospital facilities.

This innovative alliance will link Lazarillo’s platforms with UC Christus health centers, providing patients with information on medical appointments, hours of operation, and locations.

Lazarillo users will have access to various links that can be opened in either the Lazarillo web page or in the application. This allows them to stay connected with their medical care providers and find accessible details about their appointments and care.

These digital tools are vital in helping medical facilities succeed in offering true accessibility to all of their patients.

This is relevant not only in the accessibility of medical facilities, but also because it lays the foundation for a truly equitable system in which people with disabilities can participate fully, supported by technologies that expand their access to care day by day.
